MARKETING THEN AND NOW There is this thing called "marketing" and to build a business you have to do it. It has been around for decades.. but each decade is different in the ways they did it or had to do it. Back in the old days if you wanted to make money off of something or let people know about your business you had to just stand on the streets or do down to the local markets. As the years went on Television and computers were invented which helped a lot but not everyone had that luxury. You still had to market locally but if you wanted your business known you were willing to pay the money to have commercials or billboard for people to see.  Back in the 90's they didn't have it very easy. It was very straight forward. If you wanted your business seen you put it in the newspaper, billboards, television or in the mail. Luckily, marketing has changed a lot since then. Now you multiple ways to get your business out there. Don't let that fool you though. Th

Business Do's & Don'ts Many people, including me, have always wondered about the needs of an upcoming or starting of a business. I will eventually start my own business and have looking into the beginning do's and don'ts to help your business start. According to Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center some are as followed along with my opinion. 1. DO consider risk vs reward: This is something to thing about when your first starting up. After you establish yourself in some way sometimes you have to take risks and may not always come out with a reward.. but how big of a risk is the limit? 2. DO know starting a business is very time consuming and stressful: VERY TRUE!! If you're going to open a business be ready for this or you won't have a business. You have to be willing to lose sleep, quality time with friends/family when you start up to make sure your business has everything together and can Thrive.  3. DONT think the fi

Should businesses Market to Everyone? Should business market to anyone they come in contact with or are able to get to? In my opinion.. thats a NO!!  Many small businesses make the BIG mistake of trying to market to everyone, or at least to a wide range of people, believing that’s the only way to make enough money or make their business work. Businesses cannot market to everyone because not everyone is like the same things. We all have different interest, taste, ideas and opinions. Trying to market a product to everyone would only make them slow down and make everything more difficult. For example, you don't want to market a new debbie cake to someone who eats only organic and goes to the gym daily. You'd just be wasting everyones time. When you have a defined target market for your product  you're able to find out exactly what they think of the product, how to change, and how to form to their liking better. All customers what companies to read their mind and give ex

What do we want? Everyday businesses sit and ponder on what the next best thing that we as consumers would do anything for. Well, thats easy.. I can tell you in one sentence. We want what we want, when we want it and at a low price. Does that sum it up? No seriously... Speaking as a consumer I can truly tell you the things I am looking for in a product.  Value of the product for the amount they are asking. The reliability in the customer service and in the product. The easiness to get the product. If all those things are in one product I would definitely get this product! The reason I look for the value in the cost is because I wouldn't want to buy a product for a high price to have it break within the first 6 months due to the faulty build. The reliabilty of the product and customer service is always a good thing, mainly in the customer service spectrum. If I did have an issue with the product and had to call in or go to the location I would want the employ

Focus Group Have you ever heard of focus groups or been involved in one? This is someone I've just recently learned of too! After looking into this it is amazing at the benefits it could have and help you or your business with. Focus groups are a group of individuals who are demographically diverse that give feedback or have discussions on certain topics or products. On the business side of things these groups can help you get the immediate feedback on your products or issues. Instead of waiting for mailed out surveys that more than likely will be thrown away or ask brief questions to people on the street, this will let your ask multiple in-depth questions to gather further intel. Focus groups not only help in feed back on your product but can help make the company as a whole better.

Ideas On the Go You know those ideas that just pop in your head and if they are not jotted down right then you know you'll forget? I have those all the time, thats why I always put mine in my phone. If you don't then you should! Whether you use technology or a note pad it is always good to write down your ideas because when you put it on paper it doesn't just help you think of new ideas but furthers that one. Having your ideas down on paper helps you think of all the obstacles that might prevent it from going further. From having a thought to making it into something successful is very powering. Not only does writing things down help with current ideas, it also can help with ideas for your future business. I will always write things down because of these reasons. How do you write yours down?
